Grading Definitions


Within the information for many of our timber products, details of the grade of timber used in manufacture will be given. The definition for the possible variants is as follows:

Rustic Grade:
Small, medium & large knot sizes. Shakes & splits acceptable

Character Grade:
Small to medium knots. Some minor shakes and wild grain

Prime Grade:
Possibility of pin knots, small knots and cats paw, but most boards will be clear

ABCD grade:
A pack of engineered flooring described as 'ABCD grade' will contain rustic, character and prime grade boards. Sapwood within flooring is permissable and is not considered a defect
